[Acarya Ramananda Avadhuta – speaks - Evening General Darshan, on 19 of October 1979, in Sambalpur in Orissa.]

{Devotees are singing…Oriya bhajans, and suddenly there is victory slogan to Beloved Baba’s arrival and Baba is enquiring today is what, it is DMC, then Acarya Ramananda Avadhuta says, it is General Darshan.}

You know, as per Indo-aryan music or may also be more commonly known as oriental dance, there are several gestures and postures of the body along the systematic way; this portion of the leg, it represents “ tá “, and this portion represents “dhin”, and this portion represents “dhae”. In ours, Kaośikii dance all these three portions are used to some extent, and in Táńd́ava, Táńd́ava, the, this tá portion is used more than the use of this dhae portion, dhin portion.
This dance Táńd́ava was introduced by Sadáshiva about more than 7000 years ago, and this Kaośikii was introduced by me, as you know last year on 6th September, 1978.

Táńd́ava, Kaośikii is more a medicine than a dance, it is a medicine for 22 diseases, it is almost a panacea.

Táńd́ava is also an all-body exercise, including that of brain that is nerve cells, it is called Táńd́ava because in Saḿskrta, tańd́u means “jumping”, “jumping”. You know rice is also called, is called tańd́ula in Saḿskrta because when it comes out of paddy; it jumps, likes this, tańd́ula.

Lord Sadáshiva introduced Táńd́ava but Táńd́ava was not for all, So, and while preaching dharma, Párvatii helped Lord Shiva very much, while Lord Shiva introduced Táńd́ava, Párvatii also introduced “lalita”. You use that Lalita dance, while singing kiirtana, you are dancing Lalita, that Lalita was propounded by Párvatii.

Now in order to maintain a link between, Shiva’s Táńd́ava & Párvatii’s lalita, certain rhythms were introduced, and the names of, and the common name for those rhythms, were Tála. ” Tá ” has been taken from Táńd́ava of Shiva, and ‘la’ has been taken from Lalita of Párvatii.

Lord Shiva and Párvatii, they helped much, in elevating the standard for the human beings, in those dark ages, in those dark pre-historic ages, he invented so many things, he invented medical science, the music, and so many other branches of arts & science.

Now, Párvatii asked some questions, rather used to place certain questions, before Shiva just for educating, the public in line of dharma and yoga and Shiva used to give the replies.

This question portion of Párvatii, is known as Nigama, and the answer portion of Shiva, Ágama.

This Ágama and this Nigama, they jointly form the Shastra of Tantra, Tantra Shastra.

What is shástra? Shásanát tárayet yastu sah shástrah parikiirttitah – That which prescribes the code of discipline; Oh, the spiritual aspirant – you should do like these, Oh, the spiritual aspirant you should not do like these. This prescriptions, these codes of discipline, are prescribed by Shástra.

Shásanát tárayet yastu sah shástrah parikiirttitah – by imposing this codes of discipline, it shows the path of liberation, that’s why it is Shas-tra; tra means “trae dhatu d́a, tra, “tra” means “the liberator”.

Just like, Mantra – Mananát tárayet yastu sah mantrah parikiirttitah – “by repeating within the mind, that which liberates a man, is Mantra. “tra” means “ liberator”.  Now this Tantra Shastra, and tantra means, in Saḿskrta, “Tan” is a root verb, ‘tan’ means “to expand”, the word tantra has got two meanings, one meaning is – tan + tra, tra means as I have already said, ‘tra’ means liberator, “tan” is a Saḿskrta root verb, tan means to expand.

You know the name of our country is, “Bha-ra-ta”, here also, that root verb – ‘tan’ is there,

Bhara means, bhar means ‘to feed’, Bharan poshan, Bharan means ‘to feed’. The country that feeds us Bhara, and tan + d́a is “ta”.

“Ta” means that helps us in our all-round expansion, Bhara – ta, that feeds us and helps us in our all-round expansion – Bharata sambandhiiya varsa ityarthe Bháratavarsa.

Tan+trae+da – tantra, Tantra means, that helps a man, that helps a spiritual aspirant in his liberation, by effecting, his all-round expansion, is tantra.

Another meaning of tantra is, the word “ta”, not “tan”, “tan” is a root verb, just now I have already told you, tan+u=tanu, tanu means, the body of a boy, that is, not matured, un-matured body, upto the age of 39, human body expands, grows, that’s why, human body upto the age of 39, is called “Tanu” and after 39, the human body is called, “sharir”. “Sharir” that becomes “shrina”, that undergoes decaying, waning, “Tan” means “expansion”, and another meaning, the word “Ta”, is the acoustic root of “dullness”, “lethargy”. “Jagegya”, it is the acoustic root of “Jagegya”, “Jadata”.

Just like, that sheds a human being that sheds the human being, from Jadata, from dullness is tantra. These are the two interpretations, of the term “Tantra”.

Now these tantra, the first propounder of tantra was Sadáshiva. And the two wings of Tantra are, as I have already said now, ágama and nigama, these ágama and nigama, may be treated as a two wings of a bird, namely “tantra”.

There are many questions, placed by Párvatii and many answers were given by Sadáshiva,

The most important question was, what’s the minimum qualifications, what should be the minimum qualification of a spiritual aspirant? And Shiva’s reply was, the minimum qualification is that, a aspirant should have a human body, this is the minimum qualification. It requires no riches, no education, no right heredity, nothing of the kind, only if you possess, a human body, you are sufficiently, qualified to undergo this cult of tantra. And another important reply of Shiva was Samata bhava, that is a spiritual aspirant must not encourage, any sort of complex, neither superiority complex, nor inferiority complex, nor fear complex, not the complex of hopelessness or helplessness.

When the Paramapuruśa, is with you, why you should suffer from, fear complex, the most strongest personality, the most strong intellectual, the Paramapuruśa, is always with you and HE is your loving father, why should you be afraid of anything else in this universe, So the spiritual aspirant must not encourage any fear complex, and similarly when the greatest personality is your father, and you are the creation of that Supreme Personality, why should you encourage inferiority complex, you are not at all inferior to anybody else, you are free from all these and forget this thing and similarly when the entire universe is the progeny of that Supreme Progenitor of the Supreme Father, then nobody is inferior to you also, you must not develop any superiority complex, all are your brothers, neither superior nor inferior to you.

Those who encourage Caste heterogeneity, they go against the fundamental principle of this Supreme Heritage, the creator is a same father, how can there be, caste difference, all brothers, all are equal, and this is the gospel of Shiva, Samata bhava.

You are neither inferior, nor superior, to anybody, and you must not suffer, from defeatist complex, who is used to defeat you, when the omnipotent and the omniscience Lord, is with you, who is to defeat you.

Pratyamjanáḿstiśt́hate sauncukopantakále

Saḿsrjjavishvá bhuvanánii gopah

And as it would have to undergo it, even during pralaya, that loving father, will be with you, you’ll take His shelter, even the horrible, even in the horrible days of pralaya, so you must not encourage any defeatist complex, this was the gospel of Shiva.

And the last but not at the least importance is that Shiva’s said, Varttamáneśu vartteta, You must not neglect the present condition, you must not neglect the present tense, and you must not ignore, or not neglect the crude reality of life, that is your movement should be, which was your Cosmic Entity, but you will move towards the inner self, while solving the burning problems of the world, you’ll have to solve the problems, of food, clothes, shelter, education, medical treatment, and many problem of the world, while solving this problem, you must remember that, it is the order of Sadáshiva, you must not neglect the crude practicalities of life.

Bába’ says, let’s go.
