WHY AMURT?
” THIS ENDEAVOR – THE WELL BEING OF THE HUMAN RACE CONCERNS EVERYONE. IT IS YOURS, MINE AND OURS. WE MAY AFFORD TO IGNORE OUR RIGHTS, BUT WE MUST NOT FORGET OUR RESPONSIBILITIES. FORGETTING THE RESPONSIBILITY IMPLIES THE HUMILIATION OF THE HUMAN RACE.” – SHRII P.R.SARKAR

SHRII SHRII ÁNANDAMÚRTI on the 19th day of April 1970 declared the setting up a Universal Team for rendering relief to the sufferers of the natural calamities, so that no one in this vast universe may get a chance to feel that he has been rendered helpless, bereft of love and care of friends and brothers, at the most crucial moment when all his and his community’s natural achievements have disappeared, when his own family members thrown helter-skelter, are incapable of regenerating faith and confidence in him.
The ÁNANDA MÁRGA UNIVERSAL RELIEF TEAM (AMURT) shall penetrate the remotest and the darkest corners of the universe to offer relief in every sphere of man’s life disrupted by a natural calmity. They shall be ever vigilant to find out any trace of suffering due to natural calamities so that their teams can reach earliest. It is the bounden duty of the team to see that not a single soul is left unattended, that not a single person remains groaning in pain for want of medical help, that not one man is left thirsty or hungry for want of water and food, and above all to see that no one is left with a feeling that he has been forsaken by the Almighty Father.

The object of the AMURT shall always be to serve with whatever sacrifice it may have to make, whatever suffering it may have to undergo.

For the members of the team the human form whom they serve is not just a human form but God Itself and they offer their services in the same sense and with the same sincerity as a devotee in worship.

I WANT THAT EVERY MAN SHOULD BE GUARANTEED MINIMUM REQUIREMENT OF LIFE, EVERY MAN SHOULD GET SCOPE FOR FULL EXPLOITATION OF HIS PSYCHIC POTENTIALITY, EVERY MAN SHOULD GET EQUAL OPPORTUNITY TO ATTAIN ABSOLUTE TRUTH, AND ENDOWED WITH ALL THE GLORIES AND ‘ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE WORLD’. EVERY MAN SHOULD MARCH TOWARDS THE ABSOLUTE. IN AND THROUGH THIS MOVEMENT MAN SHOULD BE MADE CONSCIOUS OF THE PURPOSE AND MEANING OF LIFE”.  — SHRII SHRII ÁNANDAMÚRTI

“ALL THE BEINGS ARE TO BE SERVED WITH STEADINESS IN ALL THREE SPHERES: PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND SPIRITUAL. AND YOU HAVE TO RENDER SERVICE BY ASCRIBING GODHOOD TO THE SERVED. REMEMBER THAT YOUR SERVICE DOES NOT OBLIGE HIM; RATHER YOU ARE BEING OBLIGED BY HIM, BECAUSE OF GETTING A CHANCE TO SERVE HIM IN THE FORM OF LIVING BEINGS.”  — SHRII SHRII ÁNANDAMÚRTI

What is AMURT?
AMURT (Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team) are unique international relief organizations. Their purpose is to give aid to those suffering in the wake of natural or manmade calamities anywhere in the world. Founded in 1970, they provide immediate aid such as food, clothing, medical care and relocation, as well as long-term aid such as housing, education and agricultural assistance to victims of disaster.

A requirement of all AMURT volunteers is that they will be willing to work hard and sacrifice personal comfort, serving out of a deep love for humanity. To ensure that all funds collected go directly to disaster relief, no worker is paid a salary; all work is voluntary, and there are no “middlemen” or hired workers whatsover.

Since their inception, our volunteer teams have done extensive disaster relief around the world. They were awarded a UN Peace Prize for their care of 10000 refugees who fled across the border from the Bangladesh War in 1971. The North American chapters won Interntional recognition for their immediate service during the Nicaragua earthquake of 1973, and the Guatemela earthquake of 1976, the hurricane of 1969 in Haiti as well as in fires and storms throughout the United States. Our European chapters won wide media coverage for their quick response to the Italy and Ankarra, Turkey earthquake.

WHEN YOU HELP SOMEBODY, IF YOU HELP HIM/HER A LOT,THEN THAT PERSON WILL BECOME AN INVALID. SO IF YOU WANT TO HELP SOMEBODY, YOU SHOULD HELP THEM A LITTLE BIT AT FIRST, THEN PERHAPS LATER A LITTLE MORE, FROM TIME TO TIME, NOT ALL AT ONCE. YOUR POLICY SHOULD BE THAT YOU WILL HELP A PERSON IN ACCORDANCE WITH HIS/HER NEEDS, NOT TOO MUCH, NOT TOTALLY HELPING, OTHERWISE HE/SHE WILL NOT TRY FOR HIS/HER OWN DEVELOPMENT. YOU HELP HIM/HER A LITTLE THEN LET HIM/HER STAND ON HIS/HER OWN, AND HE/SHE WILL AUTOMATICALLY TAKE UP ACTIVITIES IN HIS/HER OWN SPIRIT AND WITH HIS/HER OWN IDEAS.” — SHRII SHRII ÁNANDAMÚRTI
