GURU PÚJA{purely Original Discourse}

4 October 1978, Patna, INDIA

Yesterday regarding the seven secrets of success as was told by Shiva to Párvatii.

Yes there was one secret and it was `Gurupújanam.’ I said that ‘pújanam’means the endeavor to acquire the attributional stance of Guru.

And, regarding the import of the term, Guru, I said `Gu’ means `darkness’, the Spiritual darkness, the Micro-psychic darkness, and `Ru’ means ` the dispelling personality’.

That is the personality that dispels darkness from your Mind from your Spiritual Urge is the Guru.

Now Let us see , what is the meaning of the Incantation that is used in Guru Pu’janam?

In that Incantation the first line is `“Akhańd́a mańd́alákáraḿ vyáptaḿ yena carácaraḿ.

I told you in the Ánanda Sútram, “Brahmáeva Gurureka náparah”.

The secret of Brahmá, HIS macropsychic and cognitive secrets, are known only to HIM, and to nobody else.

So, unless and until HE expresses Himself in/through some physical framework, how HIS secrets can be known to others?

And that is why it was said, `Brahmáeva Gurureka náparah. That is, Brahmá Himself is the Guru.

There cannot be any second Guru.

But that Brahmá whose secret is known to HIM only, expresses Himself through a framework, a form and generally people say that the form is not Guru, Guru is expressing Himself through that form.

Akhańd́a mańd́alákáraḿ vyáptaḿ yena carácaram

Akhańd́a mańd́alákáraḿ – The expressed universe, As I have already told you, this quinquelemental expression of the world, is although very big, but it is not Infinite because while creating this universe of ours static Prakrti, that is the static attributions of Prakrti, had to be used, is to be used, will be used and because of static principle static attributions it cannot be Infinite.

Certainly there will be bondage because bondage is one of the bringing anything and everything under bondage is the one of wont of static principle.

But it is very big and because of its shape being to some extent elliptical, it is called “áńd́a” in Saḿskrta.

Ańd́a” means egg “oval-shaped”. “Brahmá” + “Ańd́a” = “Brahmáńd́a” that is, `the elliptical expression of the Cosmic Entity’.

Akhańd́a mańd́alákáraḿ – That breakless and partless expression of Parama Puruśa, which is ‘Mańd́alákáraḿ ‘ and vyáptaḿ yena carácaram –The Parama Puruśa having this type of quinquelemental expression, and being all-pervasive in nature, Parama Puruśa is all pervasive, all pervading Entity and for this verb `pervading’, the Saḿskrta root verb is `vis’ and that is why this all-pervading Entity is also known as `Viśńu’. ‘Viśńu’ means all-pervasive.

`Tadpadam’ darshitam’ yena tasmae Shrii Gurave namah.’ But you know that this all-pervasive Entity, the Viśńu, it remains untouched by microcosm.

Because Microcosms cannot come in touch with this Entity, this Cosmic Entity, without the help of Guru, that is the link between jiiva and Shiva. This link is also a part of Shiva, that is, Shiva is Guru.

`Tadpadaḿ darshitaḿ yena tasmae Shrii Gurave namah’ – and this link, actually or noumenally, which is Parama Puruśa, which is Táraka Brahmá. HE is to be followed.

`Tasmae Shrii Gurave namah’. Namah means, `I surrender myself before your altar – at your altar’.

`Ajiṋánatimirándhasya jiṋánáiṋjana shalákayá.’ You know while using any eye ointment you require something like a stick to be used like this. (`Shaláká” means stick).

Now general public, that is general expression of Parama Puruśa that is all microcosms, although they are parts of that Supreme Noumenal Entity, I said Phenomenal expression of the Noumenal Entity – they are actually what, parts and particles of that Supreme Entity; of that Cosmological Entity, but due to ignorance, due to Ajiṋána, due to the darkness of Ignorance, they cannot see what is what and which is which.

That is why they require the ointment of spiritual knowledge and it is Guru who uses that ointment with that stick over your eyes. Jiṋánáiṋjana shalákayá.

Cakśurunmilitaḿ yena tasmae Shrii Gurave namah.

And after that ointment of spiritual knowledge. What does happen? Eyes are opened. Cakśurunmilitaḿ – Cakśurunmilitaḿ – Eyes are open and then, `tasmae Shrii Gurave namah’: I surrender myself before Thee.

Cakśurunmilitaḿ yena – Namah means to ‘Surrender’. This is called “Namah Mudrá”.

“Namah Mudrá” means “all my expressions, all my dexterities, which were, which has been expressed through my ten fingers, have been brought to a pin point.

That is, I Surrender along with all my dexterities.

“Cakśurunmilitaḿ yena tasmae Shrii Gurave namah.”

“Gurur Brahmá́ ‘. What is Brahmá́?

I told so many times that there are three main functional expressions of Parama Puruśa. HE is the Supreme Progenitor and all are HIS progeny; HE is the Supreme Creator, all are HIS creations. HE is the Supreme Father. All are HIS sons.

Now HE has a creator, Has a Progenitor, creates everything and HE has the Guardian retains maintains nourishes everything. And as each and every entity in this Universe are of His mental creation and when HE withdraws is mental phenomena within Himself, within the Nucleus of HIS existence then everything becomes one with HIM.

HE has a creator, Generator use the first letter G, HE has Operator use the letter O, HE has Destructor, use the first letter D, GOD that why we call GOD.

Now, you know perhaps most of you know that whenever anything is done, any vibration is created. Wherever there is any actional expression there must be sound, there must be light, there must be other inferential expressions.

And also I have told you that During the phase of creation, when HE creates, the sound `a’ is created. When HE maintains , HE retains, HE nourishes the sound ‘u’ is created and when HE takes back everything within HIS nucleus then the sound `ma’ is created. Auma , Aum ..

`Aum’ represents the entire faculties, all the faculties of the Supreme Entity and thats why in Tripáda Vibhuti Náráyańa Shruti, “Prańavátmakaḿ Brahmá́ ‘.

“Aum” is called ‘Pran’ava’.

Now, when HE creates, the sound `a’ is created, who creates – Brahmá, then `Brahmá” + “a” is “Brahmá́” – “Gurur Brahmá ‘.

Brahmá means the creative faculty of Brahmá. Brahmá+a’ , a’ means creation, a’ represents creation, `Gurur Viśńu’.

Already I told you while explaining the import of the first sentence, that Vis means to humm — yes enter in to whats the word which I used now ..pervading.

Viśńu means `all-pervading’ and it pervades to enter into everything with the help of nature of special nature of Operative principle that Operative principle is called Viśńu Máyá and operating agency of Viśńu is called Viśńu Máyá. HE pervades with the help of Viśńu Ma’ya’.

`Gurur Devo Maheshvara.’

What is Deva?

Dyotate kridate yasmád udyate dyotate divi. Tasmád deva iti prokta iti sarva devatah.’

All those vibrations, all those expressions, all the actional manifestations that vibrate the entire creation, and goads the entire creation towards the goal from electronic imperfection to nuclear perfection, they are called `Deva’.

So All the actional manifestations of the Supreme Entity are `Deva’ – there are many Devas.

But amongst them the Supreme Deva is the Supreme Entity and the Supreme Deva and the minor expressions of those actional manifestations they are called `Devatás’.

That is, the Devatás are being supervised and controlled by the Devas.

And Amongst the Devas, the greatest is Mahádeva, the Deva that controls all actional manifestations.

Now these, Mahádeva, HE controls all actional manifestations within and without micros and Macros.

You may say without Macros, that is everything within the macros, without macros, that portion of the Supreme Entity, that remains un metamorphosed, that didn’t undergone metamorphosis.

HE is called Maheshvara, Mahádeva, Maheshvara now it is HE who has got the power and right and stamina to control the expressions of Devatás and Devas; that is, the withdrawing power is with HIM.

Whenever HE withdraws anything from this world, and we cry aloud, we think and saying and thinking that particular entity has died.

But HE simply withdrawn the actional manifestations of so many Devas and Devatás.

That’s why HE is Mahádeva, Maheshvara.

And regarding HIM it has been said.

“Tava tattvaḿ na jánámi kiidrsho’si Maheshvara,

Yádrsho’si Mahádeva Tádrsháya namo namah.”

`O Maheshvara, we do not know how you are, how you withdraw all the actional manifestations of so many Devas and Devatás.

You have got the Existential faculty, the faculty of existing.

And to that, rather for that Existential faculty we offer our Namaskara.

You know what type of existential faculty yours HIS, I do not know, but it is of some type – to that type for that type-I offer my Namaskara.

“Guru Devo Maheshvara and `Gurureva Parama Brahmá.’

Expression side, the expressed side of Brahmá is called `Apara’, and the witnessing side is called `Para’.

When `Para’ becomes the witnessed side, the witnessing side becomes `Parápara’ – Para for the para.

Now, the Supreme Para, the Para of all paras, is `Parama’.

That Guru, that is that expression of the Parama Brahmá that dispels all your Spiritual darkness is Parama Brahmá.

That is, Parama Brahmá exhibiting HIMSELF in the form of GURU just to dispel the clouds of Ignorance and Spiritual slumber from you is Parama Brahmá.

`Tasmae Shrii Gurave namah’ – ‘to that GURU I offer my Prańáma.’
